callaway or another brand?
Ok so im trying to figuer out if i should get a razr hawk driver and then forged x or razr tour irons or just stick with the well know brand. i play low 80 to mid 80. Just seems like callaway doesnt get enough attention to me beside having phil on the team. Is callaway really a good brand just like titleist or taylormade. so what im getting at is callaway a good company overall for a player like me?

Callaway is on par, at least market-wise, with the Titleist’s and Taylormade’s. As of last year, they’re the #1 seller of irons. As for the flipside:
If you want a RAZR driver, do yourself a favor and buy the year-old FT Tour. The backweight is reshaped, and there’s some color to the carbon shell, but that’s the only difference. Callaway touts that Lamborghini-inspired “forged composite” stuff, but having owned older models of Callaway (FT 3, 5 and 9) I can’t tell a difference. They compare the “forged composite” to titanium- not their older composite offerings. This means that they might be making covert slaps at Taylormade (who they lost the driver market to) and/or Titleist (who they lost a litigation to concerning the Pro V1). It can also mean that “forged composite” is no better than their older composite… if they said it and it’s not true, that’s false advertisement.
As for irons, the Forged X are good forged irons, and the RAZR Tours are just a continuation of the X line. You’ll get just as much playability from either of those compared to similarly-classed models. Iron technology can’t change much… that’s the only place the consumer has really taken a stand (too bad we don’t do that with all the rest of the clubs). To get any appreciable benefits, the CG has to be put low and far away from the face. It can’t be done with what the consumer considers a “normal” looking (read: one that actually sells) iron. A tweak here or there- as in, a sole width a few millimetes wider- will have NO appreciable difference on anything. Some companies, like Cobra, have tried a urethane/plastic topline, but people rejected that. Nike tried the really-wide sole, but they rejected that, as well.
To make a long story longer, Callaway is just as good as any other reputable brand, OEM (like Titleist, Nike, etc.) or component (like Acer, Snake Eyes, Tom Wishon Technologies, etc.). The trick is to get fit. If you don’t get fit, it won’t matter what brand you buy, you’ll still not get the most out of your clubs.
